The first
Asia Cup was held in 1984
in Sharjah, UAE, featuring India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. It was organized by
the newly formed Asian Cricket Council (then called the Asian Cricket
Conference) and played in a round-robin format.

the tournament alternates between ODI (50
overs) and T20I
formats.
·
The Women’s
Asia Cup was inaugurated in 2004,
initially in the ODI format, and switched to the T20I format from 2012 onward.
