National & Governance

  • Delhi Assembly Elections: Held on 5 February 2025, the BJP secured a majority with 48 of 70 seats. Rekha Gupta became Chief Minister on 19 February 2025. 

  • Operation Abhyaas: On 7 May, a massive civil defence mock drill was conducted across 244 districts to bolster emergency readiness. 

  • Coal Production Milestone: India surpassed 1 billion tonnes of coal production in FY 2024‑25, achieved 11 days earlier than the previous year. 

  • Baalpan Ki Kavita Initiative: Launched by the Ministry of Education (March), focusing on compiling rhymes for early education aligning with NEP 2020. 

Economy & Infrastructure

  • FPO Milestone: India successfully registered its 10,000th Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) in Bihar. 

  • Bioeconomy Growth: India's bioeconomy reached $165 billion with the launch of Bio‑Sarthi mentoring initiative. 

  • SMILE Programme: ADB‑funded initiative to strengthen India’s logistics ecosystem under PM Gati Shakti. 

  • Digital Payments Surge: Transactions rose from 8,839 crore (FY 2021‑22) to 18,737 crore (FY 2023‑24). UPI grew at a 69% CAGR. 

  • MSME Financial Support: Improved credit access and lower NPAs—from 11% (2020) to 4% (2024).

  • Aditya‑L1 Mission: Captured the first-ever “flare kernel” image via SUIT on 22 February 2025. 

  • DRDO Success: Tested its Very Short‑Range Air Defence System off the Odisha coast. 

  • Cybersecurity Boost: National Cyber Command Center opened in Bangalore to counter threats. 

  • Gaganyaan Update: ISRO conducted a successful test of the human-rated Vikas engine.

  • Heat Wave: A prolonged India–Pakistan heatwave (April–July) saw highs up to 48 °C; over 450 fatalities reported in India.

  • GDP & Rice Usage: RBI cut repo rate by 50 bps. GDP growth forecast ~6.4%; surplus rice (5.2 million tonnes) diverted to ethanol. 

International Relations & Global Engagement

  • AIKEYME Naval Drill: India joined the multilateral maritime exercise with African nations in April 2025. 

  • Trachoma Elimination: WHO certified India free from Trachoma. 

  • India Chairs APO: India assumed chairmanship of the Asian Productivity Organization for 2025–26. 

  • Commonwealth Games Bid: Union Cabinet approved hosting the 2030 Games in Ahmedabad. 

Culture & Major Events

  • Maha Kumbh Mela: Held from 13 January to 26 February 2025 in Prayagraj; reported over 660 million pilgrims. 

  • National Games: The 38th edition took place in Uttarakhand (28 Jan–14 Feb), inaugurated by PM Modi. 

Incidents

  • New Delhi Station Crush: On 15 February, 18 died in a crowd crush on a footbridge at New Delhi Railway Station.
